"When a light is applied to it, liquid gasoline burns as innocently as a wax candle."
I don't remember a candle ever volatilizing up a whole column of invisible explody-gas so that when "a light is applied to it", it takes off my eyebrows and/or hair and/or turns the leaves on nearby trees to thin black paper.
Whereas with gasoline...
